CPA and founding WBF member, Catherine Ponist, presented the program Choose the Right Structure for Your Business and Avoid “Donating” to the IRS to members of the Women’s Business Forum of Bucks County on December 5th at the James Lorah House in Doylestown, PA during the organization’s 8 AM monthly meeting. Ponist, who established her accounting firm in 1993, advised the audience to first “tell the story of your business to your financial advisers” before choosing a business entity structure. “Get a specialist who listens to what’s going on in your life as well as your business to help determine your entity choices. If you’re a start-up, your business is in a growth stage or you’re winding down, all of these things influence what is the best option for you.” As Ponist noted, choosing an entity structure, especially for small businesses, is pivotal in keeping dollars in the hands of the business owner and not in those of the IRS, when monies can be paid out in taxes that could be avoided with proper planning. With the correct entity selection, savings can be substantial. In addition, an entity can be altered depending upon changing business needs, another money-saving opportunity available to business owners guided by a knowledgeable professional. The speaker also encouraged attendees to look carefully at tax deductions which are often overlooked for small businesses. A detailed handout listed specific business deductions as well as information on required documentation to support claims. Finally, Ponist closed by reiterating the need be aware of the variety of entity selection options available to small businesses—options that can save business owners money and provide flexibility through the life cycle of a business.

Sole proprietor? Partnership? Corporation? LLC? Choose the wrong structure for your business and you could end up “donating” tax dollars to the IRS.

Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.

  • Tips on deductible expenses you may be missing

Sherry Shoemaker CPCC at Women’s Business Forum on November 7

How many times have you felt stuck in your routine with no way out? Are you resisting the urge to step out of your comfort zone and make choices that empower you to live a fulfilled life? This inspirational and interactive presentation with life coach Sherry Shoemaker at the Women’s Business Forum on Wednesday, November 7, will help you discover what’s holding you back and how you can move forward.

  • What is keeping you from fulfilling your dreams?
  • What is keeping you from making decisions with confidence?
  • Why are you standing in your own way and how can you get “unstuck”?
  • Discover how to create the life you want with just 4 simple steps.

The free event is held 8-9:00am at the James Lorah House, 132 N. Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.

Shoemaker is a life coach, author, entrepreneur, speaker and educator. She founded Voice of Assurance Life Coaching so she could fulfill her own passion for helping women live their lives confidently. She has inspired and motivated women to develop greatly enhanced personal and professional lives through her one-on-one work and presentations and workshops given to groups and organizations.

Celebrating the fifth year of her company, business strategist Paula Gregorowicz of the Paula G Company told 60 members of Women’s Business Forum™ that she has “made every mistake and been exhausted from negotiating and uncertainty around pricing her services.” “We each started our own business for flexibility, to have an impact or for personal growth,” she said. “But you can’t do that if you are in servitude to your business instead of service to others.” Now, she enjoys double-digit growth each year, and shared her pricing strategies: 1. Understand why you are undercharging. If you don’t feel in your bones that you’re worth it, you will cut your prices. Many people s ay they “don’t want to be too expensive.” But remember, expensive is relative. If people see value, they will pay. Conversely, just because someone has money doesn’t mean they will give it to you. 2. Know what you want to create in life – and why. Your life plan should come before your business plan. What value are you adding? 3. Choose a pricing model that reflects how you want to work and whom you want to serve. To do so, you may need to offer tiers of service. You have to continually test your prices. “There’s no such thing as a right price,” she said. “There’s the price you choose. Prices reflect your confidence in who you are and what you offer.” Know that you can always raise prices. “If you are not being served in your business,” Paula said, “you will go out of business.” Gregorowicz created the concept of Intuitive Intelligence®, which combines your innate wisdom with the power of a proven success system to empower business owners to: •Discover your purpose and live that calling by building a successful business and do the work you are most meant to do. •Create and experience more prosperity in all areas of your life Paula can be reached at 215-450-2549 or [email protected]. What does it take to turn your business from a company that just pays the bills into a million dollar enterprise?

The Women’s Business Forum of Bucks County is offering women business owners an opportunity to find out by sponsoring a new “Mastering a Million” Professional Mastermind group beginning in September, 2012.

A select group of women entrepreneurs will learn how to take their small business from simply self-employed or “solo-preneur” to join the elite ranks of women-owned businesses whose revenue exceeds $1 million annually through a Mastermind program offering intense coaching, brainstorming and goal setting.

Applicants accepted into the program will:

  • Meet with Paramount Business Coach founder, author and speaker, Yoon Cannon, for personalized monthly sessions
  • Work with like-minded business owners
  • Brainstorm solutions to business challenges
  • Work ON your business vs. IN your business
  • Leave each meeting with clear action items to accomplish in the upcoming month
  • Hold each other accountable for implementing action items and goals
  • Move your business closer to the goal of increasing revenues and building a “viable” as well as financially successful business

The Women’s Business Forum, celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2012, offers free monthly Mastermind groups open to all in three different locations, allowing members to partake in a powerful business-building tool. The “Mastering a Million” Professional Mastermind group intensifies the experience by providing high end, affordable business mentoring to interested candidates meeting specific criteria who are willing to commit to the year-long program.

To participate in the “Mastering a Million” series, applicants must:

  • Be serious and committed to growing your business
  • Maintain annual WBF Supporting Membership or Margaret Mead Lifetime Membership throughout the one-year program
  • Be a majority owner or equal partner in your business
  • Be in business three or more years
  • Have minimum annual revenue of $50,000 from your business.
  • Possess a willingness to move towards delegating tasks to contractors or employees
  • Commit to participate personally each month (maximum of 2 absences during the course of the year to continue participation)

This professional, high-level mastermind program is available to participants for a monthly investment of $150, half of which will benefit the mission of the WBF and its programs to mentor women business owners.

As noted by Karyn Greenstreet, president of Passion for Business and the WBF’s first Mastermind facilitator, “Mastering a Million” is “a win-win all around, and a great price point makes it available to everyone. What the WBF is doing is brilliant and so necessary for women business owners.”

“Be Like a Duck” Women’s Business Forum Founding Member Shares the Secret to Her Success Doylest own – Healer, speaker and now author Cheyenne Mease announces the release of her book Clarity, Wisdom Harmony, a collection of bite-size essays to help anyone who feels stuck, sad or overwhelmed by life. In one essay she uses the analogy “Be Like a Duck”, in it, Mease advocates letting hurtful words “roll off your back” like a duck. In other words, you get to choose how you feel. In another essay on curing overwhelm, Cheyenne likens your “to do” list to “Sorting the Laundry”. Make your list and sort it according to like items so it’s organized. “As Your Tea Steeps” Unlike many books crowding the non-fiction shelves that hammer on one point for 225 pages, Mease makes many points in her essays. Averaging two pages, you can read one literally as “your tea steeps” and come away with something useful. “My goal in writing the book was to share the tools I’ve been using with clients for over 20 years in an accessible way. “ Helping Those in Transition Working as an Intuitive Life Advisor and healer, Mease helps people in transition. From illness to divorce to end of life, she uses her healing gifts to ease emotional and physical pain. Her clients range from children to the elderly. She’s worked with patients at the University of Pennsylvania and by phone. She helped a 16 year old with 6 brain tumors and she’s helped the elderly through end of life issues. In fact, her healing gifts extend to people suffering from common afflictions as feeling “stuck” or overwhelmed in today’s busy world which many of the essays in the book address. The title comes from Mease’s beliefs. “I believe when you have clarity, you have wisdom and when you have wisdom, you have harmony.” Delighted with its success, she’s into her second printing. “One person bought 14 copies!” Mease says it appeals to people of all ages. One client told Mease her 5th grade son had taken it to his room to read. The timeless and empowering messages in these essays touch everyone. Yet it’s never an easy task to birth a book. The Women’s Business Forum (WBF) Played a Role Mease credits the support of The Women’s Business Forum (WBF) of Bucks County with helping it come to fruition. “Without WBF support, I would have thrown in the towel.” Now, “I have people.” From the cover design and photograph to the editing, WBF members helped Mease craft her book. With the exception of Dr. Bernie Siegel who wrote the forward, everyone connected with it is someone she knows through the networking group. The WBF celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year. Mease says she joined the group 9 years ago when the group was just beginning and Graphic Designer Chanin Milzanik invited Mease to be a founding member. At the time, Mease had released a Guided Relaxation CD and was looking for a way to market them. The WBF gave her a way to meet other women and find an audience for her CD. Mease’s book is sold through the Doylestown Bookstore and other local businesses plus the usual outlets like Amazon. Most of us are unaware of our own body language, let alone that of other people around us. We are not in touch with the reactions our bodies have with our thoughts, beliefs and words. Non-verbal cues such as facial expressions, posture, and body movements make up the majority of our communication. Even the most subtle body expressions communicate to others what we really think and believe. Learn what your body is saying about you from gifted teacher and chiropractor Dr. Paul Stratton at the Women’s Business Forum’s Wednesday morning meeting on June 6 from 8 to 9am at the James Lorah House, 132 N. Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901. You will leave knowing how your body language • expresses more than your conscious thoughts • transmits messages about your inner-most and unconscious thoughts and conditioning, even what you really trust • can be “read” by others and how you can clarify your body’s messages. Successful results in all avenues of life depend on clear communication. By observing both our own and other people’s body language, we can clear a path beyond unconscious, self-imposed limitations and create better outcomes. Dr. Paul Stratton is a dynamic teacher and practitioner who will engage you on many levels. A gifted Chiropractor practicing in Doylestown for 17 years, he brings to his work over 28 years of experience in the field of body language and the mind-body connection.
