WHAT: Sixty-one elderly veterans from the Delaware Valley Veterans Home in Philadelphia desperately need new shoes, according to Director of Nursing, Muriel Tilley-Boggs, but cannot afford to buy them for themselves. Local nonprofit, Twilight Wish Foundation, is working with local individuals and Rotary organizations to purchase the shoes for the veterans, but needs help with the cost of $40 per pair. WHO: Twilight Wish is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for the frail and low-income elderly in our community by granting wishes they cannot grant for themselves. Muriel Tilley-Boggs, RN, the Director of Nursing at the home sent in a wish request on the veterans’ behalf, requesting decent shoes for the nursing home residents. Twilight Wish contacted Rockport Shoes in Franklin Mills Mall who was thrilled to be a part of this wish granting event. They offered one free pair of shoes for every two pairs we buy, plus an additional 20% discount on the entire bill. Given these discounts, we estimate we will need $40 on average, or a total of $2,440. Several local Rotary Clubs are offering to help us with donations of $250 each and we are also reaching out to local businesses and individuals. We need approximately $2,000 to make this wish come true for these veterans. If we can get this funding quickly, we can make this a Christmas shoe wish event and brighten the holidays of these deserving veterans who have given so much for their country.

BACKGROUND: Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, charitable organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of deserving elders through individual wish granting events.
