Community Events : Phillie Phanatic, Radio Disney at First Friday Doylestown
Posted by Maria Evans on 6/19/2007 22:08:12 (108 reads)

Baseball fanatics and kids of all ages can meet the Phillie Phanatic at First Friday Doylestown on July 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., thanks to the ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter.
The big green guy will be on hand to raise awareness about ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Like all First Fridays, downtown merchants stay open late and sponsor local artists and musicians from 6 to 10 p.m. But this First Friday Doylestown is especially family-friendly.

In addition to learning more about ALS – and how they can help – visitors to the ALS tent at State and Hamilton streets will be able to take a chance on:
• four Phillies tickets to the August 10 game against the Atlanta Braves (Sect. 130, lower level, third-base line)
• an autographed Chase Utley baseball
• an MVP Ryan Howard Bobble Figurine
They can also enjoy:
• free Cracker Jacks
• information about ALS
• face painting and music

Radio Disney Entertains, Too
For more great family entertainment, check out Radio Disney (640 AM), with music and a Radio Disney personality -- either DJ Mickey, Stylin Steph or DJ Kenny. They’ll be groovin’ from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on East State Street with Disney characters around downtown and other fun activities.
Other family-friendly activities around town include:
• In The Solebury Club tent at State and Hamilton, the first 25 kids to register for Karate Kids at The Solebury Club will receive a free summer karate membership.
• Comedy improvisation troupe On the Spot perform a set from 6:00 - 7:15 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church (corner of Pine and Oakland). Taking ideas and cues from the audience, On the Spot does a family-friendly show in the style of TV's “Whose Line is it Anyway?”
Then between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m., The First Degree, the Prouty family band, will play rock and roll, folk rock, and folk music, along with some classical piano.
• It’s Harry Potter Night from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Doylestown Library Center with Harry Potter movies, costume contests, crafts for kids, trivia contests for adults and kids, treasure quest, Hogwarts Express candy trolley, Kaleidoscope Talent improv and music, Wizard of Wonder magic show and much more mystical mayhem!
• Bamboo (hip-hop) performs at Siren Roecords, 22 S. Main St., starting at 8 p.m.

About First Friday
First Friday is a free evening of local fine artists and musicians in the historic borough. More than 80 merchants stay open late every first Friday and showcase some of the finest arts and entertainment the area has to offer.

With fun and activities for all ages, First Friday Doylestown was created entirely by community volunteers and begun in August 2005 and is sponsored by The Solebury Club, which brings the next level of health and fitness to Bucks County

First Friday Doylestown was designed to:
• generate excitement for visiting historic Doylestown
• build a greater sense of community
• foster a better appreciation for local artists and musicians.

Each participating venue will display a First Friday Doylestown flag outside their shops, restaurants or business so that visitors know they are open for business and entertainment. Just follow the yellow-and-black flags around town to discover a new side of Doylestown! Learn more and link to the ALS Association at www.firstfridaydoylestown.org.
